Grand River Dam Authority

The Grand River Dam Authority is Oklahoma’s largest public power utility; fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes. Each day, GRDA strives to be an “Oklahoma agency of excellence” by focusing on the 5 E’s: electricity, economic development, environmental stewardship, employees and efficiency.

Since its creation in 1935, GRDA has been a "conservation and reclamation district for the waters of the Grand River." The legislation which created GRDA outlined its primary responsibilities this way:

(a) To control, store and preserve, within the boundaries of the District, the water of the Grand River and its tributaries for any useful purpose and to use, distribute and sell the same within the boundaries of the District.

(b) To develop and generate water power and electric energy within the boundaries of the District;

GRDA utilizes a diverse portfolio of electric generation assets to keep rates low and reliability high. This gas, coal, water and wind portfolio includes Oklahoma’s first hydroelectric facility; the state’s only pumped-storage project; the first M501J gas turbine deployed in the Western Hemisphere and other generation assets. GRDA transmits and delivers this wholesale electricity across its 24-county service area in Northeast Oklahoma via a sophisticated energy delivery system. GRDA sells electricity to three customer classes: municipals, electric cooperatives and industries.

GRDA also manages 70,000 surface acres of lake waters in Oklahoma, including Grand Lake, Lake Hudson and the W.R. Holway Reservoir. GRDA also fulfills this stewardship mission in its management of the waters of the scenic Illinois River.
