Volunteer Monitoring

For years, volunteers from the community have:

  • collected and analyzed water samples from Grand Lake through the Oklahoma Water Watch program and

  • collected and analyzed water samples from local streams, and conducted fish and insect assessments of a few local streams through the Blue Thumb program.

These efforts help identify areas of good water quality and areas where water quality is degraded and there are upstream sources of pollutants of concern.

 What are we doing?

New training sessions for volunteers are being held in the Grand Lake area and new sites are being added as a part of this project.

For the first time, as a part of the CLEAR GRAND project, joint training sessions of the Oklahoma Water Watch and Statewide Blue Thumb were conducted in the Grand Lake area in October 2005 and 2006.  To find out more about these trainings and to see photos of volunteers having fun, CLICK HERE
